Just another post

I visit blogs like a doctor makes rounds. I follow links blindly until I wonder how did I get here? Then when it comes to posting on my own blog I'm in a funk. Sometimes I just don't know where I fit in. I'm happy to be me yet at the same time I'm boggled by our diversity. I'm bloggled!

This is a part of my world - what I saw looking out my kitchen window. I ran to get the camera and shot through the window pane. Didn't dare go outside because I might scare "it". Out of 3 quick clicks this shot was the best I could come up with. Upon close study I suspect it's a female Cardinal molting her feathers in a drastic way. But at the time all I could think of was I've discovered a tiny vulture species.

All the other birds were keeping they're distance.

I watched for her but haven't seen her since. Now most people would go on about their day and not give another thought about it. But...not me. I think about her. I blog about her. I wonder how she is and I somehow can relate to her. I imagine she sees her own reflection in the shiny plastic window of the bird feeder and is thinking --that's me?--Gee, I feel much prettier than I actually look.

Well......it's not much is it? But its all I got today. Thank-you for the visit. xox ~Elaine

My goodness me! What a curious looking bird. In fact it looks like a bird's body with the small head of a totally different species on the top! Great picture. x

good day elaine. enjoyed this blog on the molting red bird. i see them about my home as well. spring is such a time of change, inside and out. all seem to be moving out of the winter hibernation and into a flamboyant new season showing off the best and brightest. in between hibernation and flamboyancy is oddities such as the red bird with the naked head. well she still has a beauty to her. thanks for sharing - kay from cape cod times

I am sure when her new feathers grow, she will be more beautiful than ever. Every blog post fits in. I have a thought one day, and then may blog that thought the next. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is something that has interested you. Even if no-one else is interested to comment, at least you have recorded this moment in time. x

Wow--I think you're right, that it probably is a cardinal, but damn! I LOVE the idea of a mini-vulture! (I do a fair amount of lurking myself--one has to, how else would we discover cool new stuff?)

I have one of these mini-vultures in my back yard. The head is a bright green and its feathers are bright red, just like the male cardinal. It does not have the female coloring. Suppose the males molt like that? I can't find any information in the bird books.
